Counsellors work with individuals helping them to improve their sense of wellbeing, alleviate their distress, resolve their crises and increase their ability to solve problems and make decisions. Counselling tends to focus on specific current life problems, and the aim is to help people cope more effectively with complicated life issues, such as relationship breakdown, career change, redundancy, loss and bereavement and illness, addictions.
At Urban Fringe Dispensary we regard counselling as an essential part of the service. We often cross refer people to our counsellors for assessment, if this seems appropriate after a first meeting.
We regard mental and emotional wellbeing as a fundamental right for everyone.
Counselling is often incorporated as part of a holistic treatment plan, based on the physiological, environmental, and psychosocial contexts within which a person's illness or dysfunction occur.
