I first became interested in counselling following the death of my mother in 2003. The help I was given, as a client, led me to apply for a place on the Counselling certificate course at UWE in 2004. I have not looked back.
I started working as a bereavement counsellor with Cruse in 2005 and went on to study on the Diploma course at UWE. I have since worked as an Alcohol & Substance Abuse counsellor and in 2008 trained with Relate in Couples Counselling. I went on to become a Relate practitioner, whilst training to be a Supervisor at Cruse. In 2010 I underwent Relate Institute training in Counselling Young People.
Having experienced at first hand the transformative and healing power of the therapeutic relationship, I aim to encourage all my clients towards a more positive view of themselves and those they are in relationship with.
Many clients reach out for help at times of change, when their traditional ways of coping no longer seem to be effective. Exploring these coping mechanisms and learning more helpful ways of managing change can bestow skills that will help us through future life transitions.
My approach is humanistic and relational. I use various techniques, including CBT, and, where appropriate, I find working creatively and experientially with clients can also be highly effective. My goal is to provide the necessary conditions by which clients can gain a better understanding of who they are and what they need to do to realise their true potential.
