Part used: Aerial parts

Habitat: Mistletoe is a familiar hemi-parasite found across Europe growing from crevices of various commonly found trees such as poplar, haythorn, apple, lime, rowan and maple. 

Folklore and History: Mistletoe has been a sacred plant for Druids and other cultures in the British Isles since ancient times.

Constituents: Polysaccharides, polypeptides notably viscotoxins, alkaloids, fatty acids, flavonoids notably derivatives of quercetin, terpenoids, lectins

Actions: Peripheral vasodilator, blood pressure lowering, mild sedative

Traditional and current uses:

• Hypertension, angina pectoris, atherosclerosis, cardiac hypertrophy, nervous tachycardia

• Anxiety or panic attacks 

• Epilepsy
